Ear Aesthetics
The prominent ear is the fact that our ears, which should normally be located at an angle of 20-25° outward from our skull bones, are located at a greater angle.
It occurs as a result of flattening of the ear fold cartilages, which we call anti-helical layer, or when the auricular cartilage, which we call the concha, is larger than normal, or both. It can be unilateral or in both ears.
Who is a suitable candidate for surgery?
It is known that 85% of ear development is completed at the end of 4 years of age.
Patients aged 4 years and older are suitable for this surgery.
How is the surgery performed?
The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia. With an incision made behind the ear, the ear cartilages are reached. The dissolving sutures of the incision site are also closed aesthetically.
The operation takes an average of 1-1.5 hours.
Frequently Asked Questions about Ear Aesthetics
What can be said about the precautions to be taken before this surgery is not much different from the precautions to be taken in other local anesthesia surgeries.
First of all, it is important that there is no localized infection in the operation area.
Of course, our patients should inform their physicians about their chronic diseases, medications and allergies, if any.
In particular, it is recommended not to use blood thinners from two weeks before to two weeks after surgery.
It is appropriate to stop all kinds of vitamins or herbal medicines two weeks before the surgery.
At the end of the surgery, we make our dressing, which consists of pads and bandages prepared with ear shaping and protective antibiotics. We check this dressing on days 1 and 3. After the 3rd day, we open this special dressing and take our patient to the daily dressing follow-up, which is very easy to apply. This dressing process is completely over in 7-10 days. After the 3rd day, we protect our ears with special elastic sports bands. We recommend wearing this band day and night for the first 15 days, and using it only at night for the second 15 days after the surgery.
