Arm Aesthetics
It is the process of correcting fat accumulation and skin sagging in the inner and back parts of the upper arm.
In general, we need arm aesthetics as a result of sagging skin due to weight gain, genetic predisposition, the effect of gravity due to the aging process, loss of skin elasticity and reduction of subcutaneous fat tissue.
What are Arm Aesthetic Surgery Methods?
We can perform the process of removing the fat accumulated in the arm area, especially in the lower part of the upper arm, with liposuction.
However, if excess skin is formed with the accumulation of fat in this area or especially if the fat in the arm decreases as a result of high weight loss and skin sagging becomes evident, skin removal is inevitable.
In arm lift operations, in some cases, we can collect the excess skin towards the armpit and make the scar only in the armpit, but in cases with severe excess skin and extending towards the elbow, it is inevitable that there will be a scar on the inside of the arm extending from the armpit to the inside of the elbow.
Whether it is limited or full skin removal, liposuction is applied in almost all cases in arm lift surgeries.
Frequently Asked Questions about Arm Aesthetics
It is important for the patient to inform his doctor about his chronic diseases (heart-lung goiter anemia (anemia)), if he has, to tell him what treatments are applied, and to talk in detail about the operations he has had before, especially in the abdominal region. If the patient has special diseases related to the lung, heart and intestinal systems, these should be controlled for a certain period of time before the operation.
It should not be forgotten that uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (diabetes mellitus) may cause complications during the recovery period after surgery.
In particular, it is recommended not to use blood thinners from two weeks before to two weeks after surgery.
It is appropriate to stop all kinds of vitamins or herbal medicines two weeks before the surgery. If a birth control pill is used, it is recommended that it be discontinued before one cycle.
Especially quitting smoking 1 month before the surgery is very important in terms of wound healing and prevention of other undesirable complications after surgery.
The surgery is performed with general anesthesia. Before the operation, liposuction is performed alone, or limited or complete skin removal is performed together with liposuction, according to the plan you have determined with your surgeon. Depending on the nature of the operation, the operation takes 1-3 hours. If full skin removal has been performed, there may be tiny tubes called drains that are removed from under the arm and these are removed within a few days after the operation. The incisions are closed with self-melting aesthetic sutures. At the end of the surgery, we usually wrap an elastic bandage on the arms.
After the operation, the first 3-7 days are usually a rest and dressing period, and you should take the necessary medications prescribed for you and have your dressings done, taking into account the warnings we will give you during this process. The pain that may occur after this surgery is usually a pain that patients can tolerate and responds to painkillers.
In general, starting from the 2nd week, you can do your daily work more comfortably. In order for your scars to heal well, you can use special creams or bands after the 3rd week.
After the operation, you will need to use the special corset that we will wear for you for 3-4 more weeks.
While the start of sports that are not directed to the arm area is free from the 3rd week, the start of sports related to the arm area should not be before 2 months.
In the natural wound healing process, it takes a certain time for your scar to heal. This period does not occur before 6-12 months.
The risks and complications that we will list below should be discussed with the patients one by one, the reasons that increase these risks and complications should be specifically stated.

No stretching surgery can be completed without scars. In plastic surgery, scars are definitely present in all aesthetic stretching surgeries, but we keep these scars hidden in areas where other individuals cannot easily notice them in our social life. For example, in facelift surgery, the scars go down from the side of the cheek, down from the junction of the front of the ear and the cheek, and turn upwards from behind the ear into the hair, and heal so well that they are almost invisible for months after the surgery.
Likewise, scars that develop after tummy tuck and breast lift operations are not easily noticed because they are usually under the underwear.
However, the issue of scars in arm lift can create more problems for our patients. Because these scars can be seen especially during the use of short-sleeved clothes in social life and when the arms are raised.
In addition, it takes about 1 year for scars to heal well, not only in arm lift but in all stretching surgeries, and even the scars that will heal well in the end are red and puffy for the first 6 months, and then the swelling decreases and the redness fades within months.
This issue is one of the most important issues that the patient is most concerned about during the pre-operative meeting with the surgeon and is curious about the outcome.
